Cross-Cultural Communication (CMCL-C427) (Honors Option offered) (This course is offered online only)

In this course, you will heighten your cultural awareness and intercultural communication competence. We will explore the notions of culture, identity, difference, history, and power. Our discussions will focus on the reasons to study intercultural or cross-cultural communication, the popular culture representations of intercultural contact, and ways to develop intercultural communication competence. 

Please be advised that this is a reading and writing intensive course that also requires your active participation online! To begin the course, you need to login to IU East's Canvas site and begin the first week's module. Each week's module is designed around readings, videos, activities, and discussions that are designed to develop your critical understanding of intercultural communication.


Interpersonal Communication (SPCH-122/CMCL-C122) (Honors Option offered)

This course offers an introduction to core communication concepts and processes of face-to-face interaction from the perspective of communication competence. Through this course, you will analyze variability in the design, production, exchange, and interpretation of messages in relational, family, professional, and cultural contexts.

This is an interactive course! Each week, you should come to class with the required readings completed so that you can engage in the class discussions and activities. 

This course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-10:45am in TR 127
